Forest Hill Chase Upgrade

Lighting Upgrade and Switchboard Supply

The provision of electrical services (lighting installation) and switchboard manufacture & supply at the Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre.

Location: Melbourne

S.J. Electric and Trivantage Manufacturing were contracted to carry out the electrical services installation (lighting), switchboard supply & installation and sub-station upgrade for the new restaurant precinct ‘The Loft’ on level 3 at the Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre.

Trivantage’s electrical services division, S.J. Electric, installed all of the new lighting for the level with Trivantage Manufacturing supplying and installing individually metered switchboards for the 12 new restaurant tenancy’s. This involved the manufacture and installation of a new 1200A MDB-L3 Switchboard to supply each of the Tenancy Sub-Boards.

To accommodate the additional load the Shopping Centre now required for the new tenancy’s, lift and Mechanical Services Switchboard, our team upgraded the existing Sub-Station from a 1500kVA to a 2000kVA Transformer and replaced the existing Main Switchboard. To accomplish this task with minimal disruption to the Shopping Centre, S.J. Electric co-ordinated installation works of the new Main Switchboard to coincide with United Energy’s installation of the 2000kVA Transformer. After initial preparation works, the changeover process took one week and involved the building and utilisation of 3 temporary switchboards to provide temporary power supply from a 1400kVA Generator.

One major site-specific challenge that our team faced was general access to the switchroom with both height restrictions and tight corridors presenting decommissioning and installation issues. Our solution was to cut the existing Main Switchboard into manageable sections in the switchroom before it could be removed from the site as the switchroom was originally built around the existing switchboards once they were in position. These same challenges meant the new Main Switchboard needed to be custom-built in sections so we could fit them through the restricted path to their final location.

This was the kind of complex project that Trivantage excels at as it required a company that had proven experience in both commercial electrical contracting as well the supply and installation of locally custom-built switchboards. Our ability to be able to leverage the skills and expertise of our group and provide our client with a full range of products and services managed through a single point of contact ensured that the Switchboard and Electrical Services upgrade were completed successfully as planned and before the scheduled completion date.
